‘Words from the Hart’:
Hello, greetings from Scotland and welcome!
Thank you for joining me here, I’m Kathleen Hart, (also known as Poshpedlar on Instagram with over 100,000 fantastic followers ) and I’m very pleased to see you. Each week I will share ideas, suggestions, stories and strategies to encourage you to ‘make room for the magic’.
Let me introduce myself:
I’m an author living in a tiny town in Galloway, South West Scotland, I have dabbled in many things from air hostess to antiques dealer, but I quite like authoring, and am currently writing two books, that is when I’m not wrestling with my ramshackle cottage, unruly garden and wellness schedule. I swim in the sea with a seal called Seamus, (quite hard to say after a wee dram), because it simply makes me feel better.
Because not so long ago I was very sick, recovering from breast cancer and heart surgery, homeless, broke and terrified about my future. I had also just crashlanded into that dreaded bracket of ‘woman of a certain age’, transparent, confused and standing at a bewildering crossroads.
Eventually fate and serendipity found me in Scotland, (I wrote a book about how and why). It’s often said it takes a catastrophe to make us realise the true values of life. And now I’m living the life I want to live, one I always dreamed of and worked towards - a cottage by the sea, writing in my studio, watching the sun rise and the stars collide.
My aim is for you to have your own magic, to live your best life and be the hero of your own story. And if you’re already there, then come along for the ride. X
Why I’m here on Substack:
As much as I love Instagram, and all the joy it has brought me, I feel the time is right to share my life and work here, a quiet, calm space to pause, reflect and write widely and deeply on matters that count.
Words From the Hart is a gentle companion to your weekend cuppa and here is what to expect when you join me in Pilgrim Cottage:
Landscape, Lore, Love & Life
What you get: Authentic, atmospheric storytelling rooted in the rugged history of the Galloway coast, wild sea swimming, stone circles, castles, the lobster fisherman - escapism and whimsy.
The “So What”: This is your invitation to breathe. These Galloway love letters will help you slow down, transport you to another land, connect you with grounding seasonal rhythms, and offer glimpses to a different way of being.
Pages in Progress
What you get: A raw, honest, behind-the-scenes look at the daily mechanics of a published memoirist at her desk, including my unedited drafts and personal journaling practices. You will be helping me write the next Devorgilla Days.
The “So What”: This is your creative spark. By pulling back the curtain on the not so glamorous reality of the writing life, you will gain the structural tools, courage, and confidence needed to unlock your own unique voice and start writing your own next chapter. After all, everyone has a tale to tell, even if it’s just your personal diary.
Treasure Seeking
What you get: Expert, actionable insights from my lifetime as an antique dealer and interior designer, combined with the real-time curation of my home and traditional cottage garden, not to mention Scottish wardrobe.
The “So What”: This is your education in timeless quality. I will teach you how to decode rare hallmarks, evaluate craftsmanship, and look at objects with an expert eye. From auctions to country house sales, vintage fairs to luxury Scottish cashmere mills we’ll explore together the styles which will stand the test of time.
Our Weekly Rhythm
To bring a sense of structure and anticipation to your inbox, I write on a fixed schedule, and you will hear from me every Wednesday and Saturday morning.
The Wednesday Letter: A deep, beautiful dive into Landscape, Lore, Love & Life or a behind-the-scenes update on my Pages in Progress.
The Sunday Supplement: An authoritative, actionable guide featuring perhaps antique jewellery history, styling advice, or garden curation.
I can’t wait to welcome you into our inner circle.
Trust me, it’s never too late to start again. X
